What is Medical Massage?
what is Medical massage?
Massage Therapy is a beautiful art that is inherently beneficial in many ways. Every modality has a reason and a benefit.
The scope of practice for an LMT is defined as “soft tissue manipulation”, that includes muscle, tendon, ligament, fascia, and adipose tissue. We adhere to the same code of ethics as medical practitioners, for example
Hippocratic Oath of “Do No Harm”
HIPPA patient privacy standards
Highest regard for human dignity and rights
Professionalism in our demeanor
Respect for the laws associated with our profession
The term Medical Massage refers to massage that is methodically administered with a goal in mind, depending on the issue presented. Soft tissue work can significantly improve a myriad of issues by way of joint range of motion, restriction causing skeletal issues, and pain referral patterns, to name a few. Some of the most common things we see: chronic headaches/migraines, shoulder dysfunction and neck pain, jaw pain, pre/post surgical rotator cuff tears, “frozen shoulder”, diaphragm restrictions, thoracic and lumbar pain, bulging/herniated disc, tendonitis, sciatica, sacroiliac joint pain, pelvic pain (especially in pregnant clients), pre/post surgical hip and knee replacement, muscle strains, IT band restrictions, achilles tendonitis/injury, and plantar fasciitis. This is a brief overview of the most common concerns of our clients. If you have any questions about your bodywork goals, please feel free to contact us. We are happy to discuss how bodywork may or may not be able to affect the issue, and match you with the best therapist for you.
Massage Therapy programs have evolved to incorporate an immense amount of anatomy and medical curriculum for licensure, especially in the last decade. Our own community college, COCC, is one of the very first programs in the United States to provide students with college credits and achieve an associates degree, which allows students to explore not only the aspects of Massage, but the ability to pivot and use those credits towards medical science degrees in the future. Nationwide, students are receiving more comprehensive curriculum to support a fulfilling career helping others the best they can.
Massage Therapy has been been given a seat at the table in the Medical Community and we could not be happier!
At Action Dynamix we believe all massage is important and beneficial.
